چکیده

Ultrasound-guided technique for central venous catheterization has been a widely developed procedure during the last decade. Nowadays, it is a common technique in the anaesthesiologist’s clinical practice. During the last six years, we usually have carried out central venous catheterization using the ultrasound-guided technique in our hospital. Moreover, we use to check correct intravenous placement of the catheter by using the ‘‘real-time’’ or ‘‘dynamic’’ ultrasound technique. We think this is an important part of the procedure sometimes forgotten by the anaesthetist. This simple manoeuvre has some benefits: to verify the intravenous placement of the catheter, to confirm if the catheter remains fixed to the vessel wall and also to check the potential injure and haematoma caused to the vein. This manoeuvre does not require change in the position of the probe used for cannulation, the catheter can be verified when both, long or short axis, approaches are employed. If superficial vein cannulation is performed (femoral, internal jugular), an ‘‘out of plane’’ approach using the short

Guidance and examination by ultrasound versus landmark and radiographic method for placement of subclavian central venous catheters: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND Central venous catheters play an important role in patient care. Real-time ultrasound-guided subclavian central venous (SCV) cannulation may reduce the incidence of complications and the time between skin penetration and the aspiration of venous blood into the syringe. Ultrasonic diagnosis of catheter misplacement and pneumothorax related to central venous catheterization is rapid an...

[Ultrasound guidance for placement of central venous catheters].

Central venous cannulation is associated with a number of serious complications like arterial punction and pneumothorax and with discomfort for the awake patient when repeated attempts are made. Ultrasound guidance during cannulation has been shown to reduce complications, increase the success rate and thus reduce the need for multiple catheter placement attempts. We describe two methods using ...

Ultrasound detection of guidewire position during central venous catheterization.

INTRODUCTION Ultrasound guidance decreases complications of central venous catheter (CVC) placement, but risks of arterial puncture and inadvertent arterial catheter placement exist. Ultrasound-assisted detection of guidewire position in the internal jugular vein could predict correct catheter position before dilation and catheter placement. METHODS Ultrasound examinations were performed in a...

The use of ultrasound for placement of intravenous catheters.

Ultrasound has been used to aid cannulation of veins of the neck, chest, antecubital fossa, and femoral vein. This investigation compared the traditional method of peripheral intravenous (IV) cannulation of veins of the hands and forearms with ultrasound-guided IV cannulation of these veins. After obtaining institutional review board approval and written informed consent, 35 adult subjects with...

The real effectiveness of ultrasound guidance in subclavian venous access.

AIM The technique of ultrasound-guided subclavian cannulation was evaluated in our experience assessing the real effectiveness of such procedure. METHODS We have evaluated 297 subclavian cannulation, performed for the placement of central venous catheter both with landmark method (176 patients) and ultrasound guided technique (121 patients) to assess the real effectiveness of the ultrasound-g...
